The Unusual World Of Flowers

Our Earth is home to some of the most unusual things, some of those, are flowers.
They have changed and adapted to be the most efficient and effective possible way to reproduce. From being simple and easily accessed to highly specialised and specific in the pollinators.

This flower is seriously unique in appearance but it also has a bit of a different fragrance... It smells like putrid flesh. However if you can get past the stink of rotting, this plant is actually both edible and medicinal!

Calceolaria - Slipper Flowers
Naturally from Central and South America, these gorgeous plants come in array of stunning yellow, orange and red flowers.

The happy alien is well named, just look at that little flower face.  This is made even cuter due to this little beauty only growing to about five inches. Naturally, this little plant only grows in one remote location in South America, and is actually more reliant on birds for pollination rather than bugs.

Resembling a fuzzy bee, these cuties  prefer a bit more of a Mediterranean atmosphere and climate, and who can blame them! These crafty flowers resemble a female solitary bee and therefore attract the males, and therefore pollination occurs.

Cannonball Tree

These trees look just absolutely stunning, with their beautiful pinky flowers, this tree has been used for food and medicine, and then comes their 'fruit'. These things cause accidents! They look like rusty cannonballs and rumour has it they feel like it too!

Parkia biglobosa
These  Christmas bauble looking trees are just so pretty, imagine walking and stumbling across a tree in Africa (Asia or America) filled with these hanging from a green canopy. How pretty right.
This tree is highly popular, used for food, timber, livestock feed, and can produce anywhere from 25 to 100kg of fruit!

On Earth there are over 300,000 known species of plants, and many more out there yet to be discovered. What else is hidden in the densest forest or on the highest mountain top.
