5 Plants That Repel Animals

There are ridiculous amounts of plants that have uses, medicinal, edible, tinder, construction, and, repelling unwanted animal guests.

1. Marigolds
In the land down under we have many, MANY spicy danger noodles. But snakes appear not to like steing scents, and marigolds are extremely strong scented, you don't have to even brush against them to smell them. Lemongrass is said to have similar properties too.

2. Dogbane
Are those pesky dogs doing things in places you don't want them too? Dogbane has a scent that is highly unpleasant to doggos, when brushed against it release quite a strong odorous, which, although I find pleasant, the pups do not. It is also a very attractive plant, low growing but wider spread and, easy to grow.

3. Lemongrass
So not only is it said to reduce snakes, lemongrass can be used to make citronella, and therefor reduce and repel all those horrid bugs buzzing around. A lot of people plant them in pots by their doors to aid in repelling insects.

4. Catnip
Catnip contains nepetalactone. This is the active compound that triggers the chemical receptors in insects which causes pain and an itchy sensation. Because it selectively activated insect receptors it encourages your beneficial pollinators whilst repelling the pesky insects and encourages them not to return. Th only downside is tou may have your neighbours cats getting stoned in your garden..

5. Curry plant
Due to its coarse texture and its highly potent odor its highly undesirable for cats. Planting this as a small border around your front yard, or periodically may just help get rid of next doors cat and stop them pooping in your roses.

No matter what the problem, nature has a way to combat it.
