Plants For Mum On Mothers Day

Mothers Day has been a thing for far longer than I think most people realise, the ancient Greeks and Romans celebrating with festivals that were dedicated to  maternal goddesses. But Mothers Day as we know it came around in 1908, when Anna Jarvis organised the very first Mothers Day celebration.

This year, in 2025, we will celebrate our mum's on the 11th of May, giving thanks for those strong, amazing women that raised us and made us who we are. I am truly thankful and honoured to call my mum Mim. I love you.

But, this is a garden blog after all, so to the plants shall we.

There are some truly exquisite plants blooming this time of year, one of which being the Chrysanthemum.

They come in a stunning array of colours, and bloom types, and are out in full force in most garden centres at the moment. Chrysanthemums have long been thought to symbolise longevity, optimism and joy, making them the perfect gift for mum!

I also love the humble cyclamen! These are stunning, long living plants that are wonderful inside or on a patio, and are very low maintenance!  With heart shaped leaves and a stunning, almost sweet scent they are just wonderful.

Phaleonopsis orchids are always amazing, they have a dainty delicate flowers that almost feel magical! With such an array of colours there is one for every mum. Plus they very rarely need a new pot!

Roses have symbolised love for a very long time, but this stunning hybrid tea rose is dedicated to all those wonderful mums out there. With its creamy pink, fragrant blooms, Mothers Love is the perfect gift.
There are truly so many wonderful plants in the world that there are endless possibilities for your mum, my own Mim absolutely loves daffodils and jonquils, so, new cultivars make excellent and exciting presents for her. Be different, you know your mum, surprise her this and every Mothers Day, show her how incredibly special she is to you.
